One of the great exponents of progressive African-American jazz over the last 30 years, Shipp is an internationally renowned player, improviser and pioneer of new electronic tools with jazz. His current trio features percussionist Whit Dickey and bassist Michael Bisio. The first man on the microphone at this event will be poet, broadcaster and freelance journalist, Clifton Joseph. This show is the first collaboration between Rough Idea, The Music Gallery and Lula Music & Arts Centre. Canadian Music Week is many things: a music, film and comedy festival; a trade show, conference and a series of awards shows... something for everybody! If you are a music fan, name acts like Rihanna, Nick Cave & The Bad Seeds, Serena Ryder, Metric, Stars and Lee Harvey Osmond all appear at the festival as do hundreds of indie bands. If you are in the music industry, at any level, there are people to meet and things to learn. The conference includes interviews and lectures by industry heavy hitters such as Bob Ezrin, Steve Lillywhite, Eric Alper and Michael Cohl.

The McConnell/Sperandei Quintet will perform songs from their hit CD "Stealing Genius" which is being played on radio across the country and receiving rave reviews everywhere. The CD features songs made famous by Elvis, Edith Piaf, The Beatles and Led Zeppelin, showcasing the tasty trumpet-work from Sperandei and brilliant arrangements by Mark Kieswetter. As Bill King reported in a recent blog: "Lovely phrasing and perfect pitch... more than anything Amy wraps her voice around a song with purpose, conviction and style... you'll pinch yourself silly!"

Seeing Lily Frost perform at any venue is a treat... but when she takes to the teeny stage and mega sound system at The Painted Lady, it's simply other-worldly! This Ossington Street hotspot has been packing them in on Monday's for the Open Mic night hosted by Jef Farquharson as well as their hip roster of DJ's and indie bands.

On Wednesday March 27th, an all star jazz jam hosted by Wayne Cass will feature a house band including bassist Chris Gartner, drummer Great Bob Scott and saxophonist Richard Underhill.

As for the 28th, Lily and her band will perform songs from various recordings including her latest, "Do What You Love". This show is bound to sell out so get your tickets in advance!

Monday, April 8 at Hugh's Room: Scarlett Jane, Sahra Featherstone, Joe Hall, Tony Quarrington, Tom Parker, Heather Luckhart, and Julian Fauth perform folk, roots and blues music. Tickets just $22.50 at hughsroom.com.

Saturday April 13 at Palais Royale: Jaymz produces and hosts his official 50th B-Day bash and raises money for Unison Benevolent Fund. Featuring: Chris Norton (of New York swing kings "Sly Blue"); Terra Hazelton, Alex Pangman, Barbra Lica and The Shuffle Demons. For those who want to sing, there is karaoke in the lower lounge, courtesy of Dog & Pony Sound. The show is half sold out already so don't delay! Sunday April 14 at McMichael Art Gallery in Kleinburg: Jaymz Bee hosts a concert by Tony Quarrington and his band performing songs from his Juno winning CD "Group of Seven Suite", as well as a tour of the famous paintings that inspired his songs.
