Although it’s only in it’s second year, The Brantford Jazz Festival boasts an impressive line-up this month that includes international and local jazz greats including Rob McConnell, Joey DeFrancesco, Peter Appleyard, Susie Arioli, Jackie Richardson, Shuffle Demons and more. The JAZZ.FM91’s 2009-2010 Sound of Jazz Concert Series features top international talent and homegrown favourites on nine separate evenings at The Old Mill Inn, one of the most jazz-friendly venues in the country. Canada’s longest running jazz series returns for its 34th season September 2009 to March 2010.

The season gets underway with a tribute to the 60th Anniversary of Blue Note Records. One of the most influential and successful labels of all time, Blue Note Records musical legacy is one of the most important in jazz history. The Alex Dean Quintet featuring Alex Dean (saxophone), Brian O’Kane (trumpet), Brian Dickinson (piano), Neil Swainson (bass), and Barry Elmes (drums) will honour this legacy with a performance of some of the songs that helped establish Blue Note’s incomparable reputation.

A truly invigorating adventure in self-discovery! This three-month advanced meditation course explores applications and benefits of meditation in terms of health care, physiology and pain management. The program offers expert instruction by a life-long meditation and breath work (praanayaam) specialist who, growing up in India, has been intensively immersed in the discipline, philosophy and science of yoga and meditation. Sachne J. Kilner is an internationally certified Yoga and Meditation Instructor and Teacher Trainer who was raised in the Himalayas with Yoga as a lifestyle and focus of study. She has an M.A. in Yogic Sciences from West Bengal India, is also available for private, group, corporate, and phone sessions.

Every Tuesday from 7-9 p.m. and alternating Saturdays 4-8 p.m. Participants will receive a Certificate at the end of the program. The total cost of $1195 includes podcasts, CD’s and online support for the full three months. Payment plans available. Deposit required for registration.
